In what is expected to be one of the largest women’s mentoring events ever, an estimated 8,000 women business leaders in 40 cities across the country will be participating April 7 in American City Business Journals’ Mentoring Monday program. The event also will serve as the kickoff for a new ACBJ news site, Bizwomen, publishing essential news and insights for women business leaders.
Mentoring Monday will draw its greatest strength from the impressive leaders in the room across the country – women such as Maxine Clark, founder of retail sensation Build-a-Bear Workshop, in St. Louis; Kirsten Rhodes, managing director of Deloitte, in San Francisco; Irene Quarshie, director-government affairs of Target, in Minneapolis; and Grace Davis, director of corporate affairs for Intel, in Sacramento.
The morning will start with videotaped keynote remarks by Lori Greiner, super-entrepreneur, inventor extraordinaire and one of the most successful “sharks” on the popular Shark Tank television show that pits budding entrepreneurs against experienced investors. Her practical advice and impressive track record set the stage for a morning of mentoring bringing together experienced women business leaders and those who want to model their success. It’s a speed-coaching format where mentors are asked rapid-fire questions by those who come to learn from them. It will be fast, energetic and fun.
From Mentoring Monday forward, Bizwomen will harness the access and reportage of hundreds of ACBJ editors and reporters in 43 different markets. Run by a dedicated staff based in ACBJ’s headquarters city, Charlotte, N.C., Bizwomen is specifically geared for women leaders seeking business opportunities, news, knowledge, and contacts who can help them grow their businesses. In addition to the site, Bizwomen will publish a weekly email newsletter highlighting the most urgent, most important and most enlightening news and information involving and affecting women business leaders.
National sponsors for Mentoring Monday and Bizwomen include, ADT Security Services, CBIZ, Edward Jones, Liberty Mutual Insurance and PNC. Our national association partners include ABWA (American Business Women Association) and NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners).
